The start of our Kimberley Coast adventure!

After a morning of briefings and presentations, the first excursion on our Kimberley Explorer voyage was fast upon us after a tasty lunch. The Zodiacs were launched, and we embarked, ready for the history and dramatic scenery of Koolama Bay. The Zodiacs took off, passing the area where the MV Koolama was brought to and mended due to strife during a 1942 bombing.

Heading onwards into King George River, we had delightful viewings of White-bellied Sea Eagles, Brahminy Kites, Egrets and for some, Crocodiles in the water. We enjoyed the 1.6-1.8-billion-year-old rock formations towering above us as the river paved the way to the iconic 80-meter-tall twin waterfalls, known as King George Falls. With the dry season just starting, the waterfalls poured down the rock face, putting on a spectacular show. The adventurers enjoyed a refreshing dip under the waterfall at the front of the Zodiacs, whilst others were happy to watch and listen to the squeals of joy (or maybe shock from the cold water).

The 9 nautical mile cruise back towards Heritage Adventurer was during the golden hour of sunset when the sun lit the skies and rocks in an orangey-red glow.
