Humpback Whale Welcome and Cultural Exchange at Uelen
The foggy start to our voyage made way for brilliant sunshine today as we explored Cape Dezhnev. Humpback Whales welcomed us, flashing their flukes on both sides of Spirit of Enderby.
On shore we visited the old Inuit settlement Naukan and the lighthouse memorial to Semyon Dezhnev. During lunch Spirit of Enderby repositioned to Uelen, a rural village just south of the Arctic Circle. Here we enjoyed an excellent cultural exchange with the locals including a museum visit, bone carving masterclass and local performance. After an excellent outing in the sunshine, we celebrated in the bar as our trusty expedition vessel made its way towards Kolyuchin Island.
