Exploring the unknown on Tagula Island
Our Discover the Secrets of Melanesia voyage saw us arrive near the easternmost point of Papua New Guinea at a location no cruise ship has visited previously - Tagula Island, the largest of the Louisiade Archipelago. We visited the Griffin Point St Mary's Primary School and were the first-ever visitors from outside Papua New Guinea to the village. The locals were dressed in stunning traditional outfits and treated us to a series of local dances before showing us through their school.
Afterwards, we enjoyed a Zodiac cruise up the nearby river surrounded by virgin tropical rainforest to a flowing waterfall and an afternoon of snorkelling made for a spectacular occasion.
