Chalky Inlet and North Port

Kayaking Fiordland_C.Todd

Overnight the southerly arrived with a bluster and some rain, but aboard Heritage Explorer we were safely stowed away at our anchorage. After breakfast it was time to hit the water with our first ocean experience. The first order of business, sailing through the swells offshore of Gulches Head we found ourselves within the sheltered waters of Chalky Inlet with the white cliffs of Chalky Island catching the morning sun.

The morning was spent exploring by foot, kayak and Zodiac, as snow showers slid across the mountains and the sun periodically illuminated the scene. This afternoon we tucked Heritage Explorer into the great anchorage of North Port and again enjoyed the opportunity to explore this beautiful and seldom visited shore, here white sand beaches beckoned for a winter's afternoon stroll.
