Snares Fernbird

Today we heaved to off the east coast of the main Snares Island and got most passengers into Zodiacs despite a 2.5 metre swell. The Zodiacs afforded superb views of the steep volcanic cliffs, kelp beds and sea caves. We saw the rare Snares Fernbird, Tomtits, clouds (and rafts) of Cape Pigeons, and thousands of Snares Crested Penguins in their rookeries, diving in pods like dolphins and launching into the sea.
