Sailing into Terra Nova Bay
This afternoon our trusty expedition vessel Spirit of Enderby steadily worked her way into Terra Nova Bay where a moderate katabatic wind was blowing. Off the bow we had the most glorious view of mountainous terrain with majestic Mt Melbourne, ice-moulded landscapes of pale brown rock and shear ice cliffs of the Campbell Glacier.
By evening, the wind had eased and we enjoyed a memorable continental landing near Germany's Gondwana summer station quietly strolling over a timeless stony surface sparkling with mica and garnet set in the ancient rocks. Korea's futuristic Jang Bogo Station could be seen and, earlier, we viewed Italy's Mario Zuchelli Station, completing a memorable day expeditioning.
