Exploring the remote cliffs of Etna Bay
Our Indonesian Explorer voyage took us to a place rarely visited by anyone - Etna Bay. This bay is a huge fiord-like landscape surrounded by towering 1000-metre-high cliffs, winding mangrove rivers and a small Papua village with a stunning church. Part of the Kaimana Regency, it is named after the 1858 Etna Expedition to the south coast of West Papua.
The Miere Tribe make this their home - there are no cars here for over 160 kilometres of land. Instead, just small boats to navigate this tropical landscape. Exploring this bay, we enjoyed great observations of Lesser Bird-of-Paradise while others swum in stunning waterfalls.
