New Zealand Sea Lions at Port Ross Landing
Sailing in the lee of Auckland Island made for a much more restful sleep during the 2nd half of the night. Everyone remained curled up for the last winks in the calm waters of Port Ross until a bright morning and Nathan's chirpy announcement that breakfast was served. Then it was time for everyone to get into their walking gear to visit Sandy Bay's huge colony of rare New Zealand or Hooker's Sea Lions, which were jostling for position to see the strangely coloured creatures coming towards them by Zodiac.
It was a fine day for a walk around one of the world's rarest island gems. Trundling grey clouds made for lovely photos as the sun burst through, spotlighting the Rata forest which crowns this southern ocean World Heritage site.
