SOE: Exploring Verkhoturova Island

This morning was unusually foggy and cloudy. We landed on a sandy beach of Verkhoturova island and began exploring the area. Small groups of people dispersed in various directions: someone walked straight to the lighthouse, others climbed up the hill to the large plateau, and the rest went along the seashore.

Tundra was brightly colored with red, yellow, green and white, displaying the fall palette. Mushrooms and berries were spread everywhere, and all of us enjoyed eating blueberries, cranberries and crowberries. Someone has been lucky to meet a red fox nearby the cliffs.

After lunch, the guides provided lectures about Kamchatka brown bear and about the challenges of the Russian nature conservation system.
