Sibuyan Island, 'The Galapagos of Asia'

Heritage Adventurer arrived at Sibuyan Island and, after an adventurous 'wet landing' and welcome ashore, we headed to our air-conditioned mini vans to see what this beautiful island had to offer.

Dubbed the Galapagos of Asia, nearly 50% of Sibuyan Island is still covered in primary forest on its upper slopes.

We had two adventures to choose from - a walk to a waterfall with the offer of a swim in the pure cool waters of a deep pool beneath the falls for the non- birders, or the other, a birding tour for nature-lovers in the countryside (and the tropical sun!).

About half of us chose the 'birding tour', and while we did glimpse a few of the commoner birds, the swimming group saw more birds in the forest around the waterfall! The lesson of the day: on expedition travel, expect the unexpected!
