Iceberg Alley in the Ross Sea
We continued along the coast past icebergs, heading north towards Cape Adare. Ship historian, Stephen, continued his lectures on the famous explorers and we also had a lecture on the Antarctica Treaty. As we neared Cape Adare at dinnertime we ran into a snowstorm and heavy winds, but no ice pack. After dinner people went to the bridge to watch the captain navigate through iceberg alley in low visibility. As we turned the corner into Robinson Bay we were protected by the wind and the sea became calm. However, the waves were still too strong to do a landing, but we all enjoyed views of the huts and Adele Penguin colony from the decks of the ship as clouds loomed overhead.
