Honouring Waitangi Day on board Heritage Adventurer
It was a special moment on board Heritage Adventurer this Waitangi Day. In the morning, we learnt traditional weaving of food baskets and flowers/putiputi, from our Ngāi Tahu representatives Racheal and Kara. We also learned a traditional song/waiata to begin our Waitangi Day celebration of culture.
Throughout the day, we also had tales from the expedition team about their work with researchers on Auckland Island and the seabirds that guided us on our way to Macquarie Island. In the evening, we joined in waiata as we presented our weaving as a gift to be displayed on board Heritage Adventurer.
