A first for everyone - Derimbat Village, Manus Island
The beating of garamut drums herald our arrival into Derimbat Village, Manus Island. This was an expedition stop for the Spirit of Enderby and we were soon told it was the first time that any ship had visited this village. We were welcomed into the village by speeches, a spirited proactive sing sing and national anthem preformed by the local school children. It was very moving for all involved.
In the afternoon, idyllic Papi Island off Manus provided a fantastic site to begin snorkeling for the trip - we spent the entire afternoon in the water and returned to the Spirit of Enderby exhilarated by the days activities.
