Exploring the Art Gardens of Sakaiminato

Today we woke to rain but totally enjoyed the day at Matsue Castle, Yuushien Gardens and the amazing Adachi Museum of Art featuring the art of Yokoyama Taiken. The highlight of the day was viewing the incredible Japanese gardens of Yuushien. Rated one of the best Japanese gardens in the world, we were completely amazed at how exquisite and well maintained a garden could be.

As we moved through the Adachi Art Museum the perspective of the garden here kept changing with new views around every corner, and the lush plantings enhanced by the mist. A stop at the Shoji Ueda Museum of Photography wowed us all with the superb architecture of one entire building devoted to Sakaiminato’s most famous photographer.
