Experiencing the Magic of South Korea
Heritage Adventurer’s crossing of the Sea of Japan was smooth and South Korea welcomed us with a cool, but fine and sunny, day. Today we have the option of exploring Ulsan or Busan.
For those in Ulsan our day included the burial tombs of The Kingdom of the Heavenly Horse, the Woljeonggyo Bridge (the largest wooden bridge in Korea), lunch at the amazing buffet restaurant call Sushi Bar providing much more than sushi and the perfect taste of South Korea. With Buddha’s birthday and Children’s Day approaching Bulguksa Temple was decorated with 100s of colourful lanterns and a buzzing atmosphere. It was then time to unwind among the serenity of Taehwagang River Bamboo Forest.
Those on the bus (not train) to Busan started their adventure at beautiful Haedong Yonggungsa Temple one of the few waterside temples in South Korea with small shrines, Buddhas, stone statues including a row of horoscope animals carved in stone and even a couple of golden pigs lining the walkways. At the 100-storey BUSAN X the SKY observation tower a super-fast elevator transported us to the top for an unmatched view over the landscape, the beach, and out to sea. Another amazing lunch buffet specialising in seafood also provided the perfect taste of South Korea. The rest of the day was spent exploring the quirky and colourful Gamcheon Culture Village and bustling Jagalchi Fish Market – the largest seafood market in South Korea.
With everyone back on board our trusty expedition vessel, Heritage Adventurer cast off and sailed out through the busy harbour to start our return to Japan after an incredible adventure in South Korea.
