Cruising Cascade Cove and Astronomer's Point

Heritage Explorer, Fiordland

This morning we cruised out of Cascade Cove towards one of the more historic locations within Fiordland and Dusky Sound - Luncheon Cove. Visiting the site of New Zealand's first European house and ship building while being surrounded by plenty of curious seal pups proved another unforgettable experience on our adventure.

From here half of the group went for a walk to Lake Kirirua through dense native bush featuring some impressive Rimu and Beech Trees. The other half of the group enjoyed a Zodiac cruise exploring the many islands.

We met back on board Heritage Explorer for lunch before sailing to Astronomer's Point, the point/destination that helped establish longitude and the position of New Zealand. The day afternoon filled with excitement and there was no shortage of things to do as we finished the day with a spot of fishing with a couple of blue cod to add to our dinner. With some more wind on the way we cruised back to the shelter of Cascade Cove for the night.
