Spectacular Ice Cliffs

Ross Ice Shelf

We took a closer look at the magnificent Ross Ice Shelf at 0300 this morning. The passengers found this sight somewhat overwhelming as the giant cliffs towered above the ship. Later we landed at Cape Bird and enjoyed watching many hundreds of animated Adelie Penguins on the beach. We are still enjoying fantastic weather - long may it continue! In the afternoon we cruised along the sea ice in McMurdo Sound with great views of icebergs and the Transantarctic Mountains in the background.
