Farewell Melanesia

Our very successful first expedition exploring PNG and the Solomon Islands has now come to an end and attention now turns to the cooler waters of the New Zealand and Australian Subantartic Islands and the Ross Sea region of Antarctica.

The passengers and expedition staff disembarked yesterday in Honiora, Solomon Islands and we are now headed south towards the Port of Lyttelton just outside Christchurch, New Zealand where we will make preparations for the great Southern Ocean season. The cool temperatures will be a welcome relief after the heat and humidity of the tropics, but we will miss the colourful cultures experienced all too briefly during the last expedition.
