Cruising Antipodes Islands by Zodiac

Antipodes Zodiac Cruise

The isolated, rugged and mysterious Antipodes Islands appeared eerily out of the mist and fog on the morning of Day 12 on our Birding Down Under voyage. Strong winds and a north-easterly swell meant our normal anchorage and Zodiac cruising spot was out of action today. However, in true expedition style we circumnavigated the island on the trusty Spirit of Enderby looking for a suitable lee shore to run our Zodiac operations from and we found it – to the delight of all onboard! After a quick lunch we boarded the Zodiacs and cruised along the south-west coast on the look out for the Antipodes Island and Reischeck’s Parakeets along with Erect-crested and Rockhopper Penguins – all of which were spotted and delighted, as did the landscape and atmosphere of this rugged Island – next stop, the Bounty Islands.
