Brown Bears at Primetnyy Point

Waking up to a beautifully calm day, we made our first landing of the day near a small estuary at Primetnyy Point. Walking up the river bed to a nice viewing point, we drank in the spectacular tundra landscapes. We didn’t have to wait long before a Brown Bear was spotted during their morning fishing mission, while a mother and three cubs were just across the valley from us. A further two bears were seen while we sat and watched these amazing creatures go about their daily business. The changing light also lent a special feel to the morning, not to mention some great photographic opportunities. We all left with an incredibly peaceful feeling after experiencing wilderness and its wildlife at its best.

We spent the rest of the day on Verhoturova Island – either climbing up a nearby hill to get a better sense of the surrounding geography or watching the puffins on the nearby cliffs. Some even got a special treat of a close encounter with a Red Fox. Heading back to the Spirit of Enderby everyone was looking forward to a hearty dinner back onboard after such a wonderful day. This evening we set a course for the Commander Islands.
