Visiting New Zealand's little-known Campbell Islands
We have just hosted Newshub reporter Thomas Mead aboard our small expedition ship the Spirit of Enderby for our last 'Forgotten Islands of the South Pacific' Expedition in 2016.
Expeditioners made landings at some of the most fascinating Subantarctic Islands including the Auckland Islands and Campbell Island as well as Zodiac cruising at The Snares Islands.
Thomas spent time onboard with Expedition Leader and founder Rodney Russ, learning about the wild and windswept conditions, experiencing ship life and some of the most picturesque scenery the remote islands have to offer. With the chance to see many of the 120 different bird species the Sub Antarctic Islands have on offer, expeditioners were often found on the bow of the ship, or the bridge, with their binoculars ready.
"It's not everybody's cup of tea, it's not what everybody would look for in a holiday - but I think there are an increasing number of people who are looking for these wilderness experiences," - Rodney Russ of Heritage Expeditions.
