Expedition Cruising Brochure 2015/16 Released, Secrets of Melanesia, Siberia & Beyond, New Antarctic Itineraries, Wrangel Island High Arctic Expedition.
Heritage Expeditions
It has been a busy couple of months both in the Heritage Expeditions office and also aboard the Spirit of Enderby which is now embarking on the first voyages of the season to the Subantarctic Islands.
We have been lucky enough to host a number of ship staff in the office recently. Many of the faces below will be recognisable to anyone who has travelled with Heritage Expeditions. We celebrated having Adam, Meghan, Katya, Julia, Evgeny and Elena in the office in a classic Kiwi way, by throwing a few sausages on the BBQ in the sunshine!!
The Sights and Sounds of the South Pacific
Our inaugural Secrets of Melanesia voyage concluded at the end of October. This 12 day exploration of the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu was a great success. Expeditioners sipped champagne on Champagne Beach, swam at the famous Metevulu Blue Hole and discovered the underwater paradise of the coral reef while keen birders explored the hinterland at dawn. Passengers were treated to the generous hospitality of the local villagers, some such as the people of Taumako who hadn't seen a tourist ship since 1978!!
Check out our photo gallery from this voyage here, as well as a video from the voyage created by Heritage Expeditions' staff member Conor Jones. Next year's Secrets of Melanesia departs on 23 October 2015, priced from $5995 USD pp.
Siberia & Beyond: 2015 Itineraries & Flight Suggestions
Now in our 8th season exploring the Northern Pacific Ocean, the Spirit of Enderby has sailed the coastal waters of Siberia and the Russian Far East wilderness more than any expedition operator and Heritage Expeditions remains the clear leader in providing an authentic expedition to the Pacific Ocean’s northern frontier. Despite Siberia being one of the most isolated regions in the world, Russia’s forgotten coast is strikingly easy to reach with modern aviation. Some sailings are serviced by direct flights from Alaska and we are happy to suggest alternative routes to suit extended travel plans. Our highly experienced Russian speaking staff can assist with guiding our expeditioners through the visa application process and can also help with any additional Russian arrangements.

New Antarctic Voyages for 2016
Due to overwhelming demand we are offering five Antarctic voyages in the 2015-2016 season, including (ice conditions allowing) a much anticipated return to the site of Douglas Mawson’s Cape Denison base at Commonwealth Bay in East Antarctica in December 2015. We will also be offering an extended Ross Sea itinerary in February 2016 that will follow Amundsen's epic journey. This 35 day itinerary will travel as far as the historic Bay of Whales, which was home to Amundsen's Framheim hut. Very few expeditions venture this far east in the Ross Sea.
Once in a lifetime experience!!
10 days exploring the interior of Wrangel Island
5 lucky expeditioners embarked on an experience of a lifetime earlier this year, our inaugural High Arctic Expedition.
Near the top of the world, 140 km off the northeast coast of Siberia lies Wrangel Island. Untouched by glaciers during the last Ice Age and looking much as it did when woolly mammoths roamed the land, Wrangel Island is today best known for its population of denning Polar Bears.
Heritage Expeditions ‘Across the Top of the World’ voyages opened up new opportunities for travellers to explore this treasure trove of Arctic diversity which was previously only available to a select few Russian scientists.
We are now offering 5 adventurous expeditioners the ability to spend 10 days on Wrangel Island in 2015 exploring this unique World Heritage Nature Reserve with local rangers and researchers. Travel by special tundra buggy, camp in field huts and enjoy wildlife encounters and photographic opportunities that many professionals only dream about.
Earning rave reviews from the expeditioners who experienced the unbelievable wildlife and wilderness photographic opportunities in 2014, the High Arctic Experience is back for 2015. With only 5 places available, don't miss out, contact us today!
Sea Kayaking - Unique Experiences in the Russian Far East
Sea Kayaking is now available on three voyages in the Russian Far East including the Sea of Okhotsk, as well selected Subantarctic voyages. Feedback from participants has been great, kayakers have been rewarded with some incredible wildlife encounters – curious sea lions, brown bears ambling along the beach and even an inquisitive pod of orca – which was a real highlight for those on this year’s Russia’s Ring of Fire voyage.
