Elusive Spoonies

A sad day for the Spoon-billed Sandpiper. Teams searched a large bay which is considered ideal habitat, but didn't find any sign of the birds despite covering a large area. Current population estimates were based on this area supporting a number of birds, so it is now apparent that the species is more critically endangered than previously believed. Despite this negative result the teams are in good spirits and enjoyed some great wildlife encounters. especially with some Grey Whales feeding at the entrance to the lagoon.
