Cruising Possession Islands and Cape Adare
As Spirit of Enderby sailed north over calm waters we enjoyed outstanding views of the Possession Islands featuring a moodily stark contrast between dark volcanic rock and dusting of fresh snow. Along the beach, waddles of young Adelie Penguins near the water's could be observed.
By early afternoon we were passing the coast of the Adare Peninsula with numerous icebergs beside the Downshire Cliffs and off the end of Cape Adare. While a large swell and grounded ice here made landing impossible, we were amply rewarded with the cloud-free Admiralty Range and the glaciated landscapes at the head of Robertson Bay. The day ended watching a spectacular sunset at 2135 hours.
