Wrangel Time

It is Saturday afternoon and we have just arrived at Wrangel Island. The ship is currently drifting offshore amongst the ice floes while we await instructions from the ranger staff prior to making our first landing.  We enjoyed an exceptionally good run north after departing Kolyuchino Island at 1800hrs last night. It had been a rewarding afternoon there as we sat offshore in the Zodiacs viewing a large walrus haul-out before landing to spend several hours ashore exploring an abandoned Polar Research Station and observing the activity at the bird cliffs.  Species seen and photographed included Horned and Tufted Puffins, Guillemots and Kittiwakes.
