Tyuleniy Island

Our expediton to explore the Sea of Okhotsk began in earnest today. This sea which is almost land locked, is extremely cold and teeming with marine life. Today we visited tiny Tyuleniy Island which at only two acres in size doesn't feature on any maps. The island is a major breeding ground for Northern Fur Seals and Stella Sealions. The landing parties saw some 1000 Sea Lions with 200 pups today, and in the peak season there will also be over 100,000 Northern Fur Seals congregated here.
