Tropical Paradise

This morning we rose early for our trip up Mt Austin behind Honiara in the Solomon Islands. Bats flew around us in the darkness as we searched for the endemic owl. It was a rewarding day for birders as we saw the Ultramarine Kingfisher, the Solomons Sea Eagle, Yellow-bibbed Lory and Blyth's Hornbill and many other birds. Beautiful butterflies also filled the air, including one species the size of a dinner plate!

Chefs Joss and Rocket went shopping in the local market and served the fresh fruit they had purchased there, including delicious orange-skinned bananas, custard fruit and pawpaw. In the afternoon were lucky to see False Killer Whales leaping in the sparkling blue waters as we sailed towards Kolombangara.
