Sunny Enderby
We have had a busy few days since we sailed from Bluff in near perfect conditions on Thursday. There was an easterly swell as we sailed south past Codfish Island and the west coast of Stewart Island. We enjoyed a Zodiac cruise at the Snares Islands the following morning and had good views of all species on our list including the endemic Snipe!
The weather deteriorated as we left the Snares and we had a trip that most people I think, will want to forget. Many of the expeditioners found the going a little uncomfortable, so were very grateful to get into the sheltered waters of Port Ross in the early hours of Saturday morning. Enderby Island never disappoints regardless of the weather, but we were lucky to encounter near perfect warm and sunny conditions for our day ashore. Yesterday we explored the long abandoned coast watchers station near Carnley Harbour in the southern Auckland Islands. We are now making our way towards Macquarie Island in mercifully calm conditions.
