Steaming to Japan
Today is the fourth of five sea days before we arrive at the Bonin Islands and day 24 of our Western Pacific Odyssey voyage. Sea days can be unpredictable, however we have enjoyed a good run with some excellent sightings including Christmas Shearwater, Matsudaira's Storm-petrels following Spirit of Enderby, Bannerman's Shearwater, Bulwer's Petrels, Leach's Storm-petrel, Wedge-tailed Shearwater, Red-footed and Brown Booby, a Bonin Petrel (more to come), flocks of Bridled and Sooty Terns and a couple of Arctic Skua winging their way northwards to their Arctic breeding grounds. Spending time alongside an Omura's Whale and her calf proved a highlight and we briefly enjoyed the company of a Risso's Dolphin on our passage north.
