Sperm and Blue Whales Enroute to Commander Islands

As I write this we have near perfect sailing conditions enroute to Commander Islands - our first stop on our 'Russia's Ring of Fire' expedition.  This expedition is sometimes known as 'Birding the Kuril Islands'.  Already we have Sperm Whale and Blue Whale sightings and good bird numbers - we are taking this as a good omen for the start of our Northern season!  Working in Russia certainly isn't always 'plain sailing' and our ground team have done an outstanding job to secure the permits and permissions this season.  Everybody aboard is excited and I am looking forward to sharing these Blogs with you so you can follow our expeditions to destinations that most people have never heard about, let alone thought possible to visit.  Perhaps my Captain's Blog will inspire you to return back to join Spirit of Enderby, or join us for your first voyage.
