Solomons Finale

This is the final blog from the southern Pacific as we sign off from this expedition. We are now en route to Honiara where expeditioners, guides and lecturers will disembark in the morning. The last two days we have been working in the Temotu Province in the eastern Solomon Islands where we visited two islands – Nendo (sometimes called Santa Cruz) and Vanikoro.

Our day on Nendo began at dawn with a ride on the back of a flat deck truck which took us deep into the forest to see the Santa Cruz and Sanford’s White-eyes. The outing was capped off with a unique cultural exchange in a nearby village. Yesterday we visited Vanikoro Island where we successfully searched for the endemic Vanikoro Monarch and Vanikoro White-eye. It has been a hugely successful expedition from both birding and cultural perspectives. Full species lists from these southern Pacific expeditions will be posted on line soon.
