SHO: Incredible day at Wrangel for NE Passage Expeditioners

Some frustrations with the weather but some amazing experiences at Wrangel Island.  We enjoyed an exceptionally good run north from Kolyuchin Island to Wrangel Island arriving early on Saturday morning.  We enjoyed a morning around the Rangers' Camp in Doubtful, where there was an opportunity to explore the tundra and learn some of history of the Island.  In the afternoon we landed at the point where the 180 meridian bisects the Island and while some folk explored the tundra ecology others climbed a nearby ridge to get views of the interior of the Island.

The weather deteriorated overnight and today we had to contend with some rain and a persistent 1.5 metre S – SW swell, which brought sea ice with it… making landing very difficult but that didn’t stop us having some simply incredible Polar Bear encounters.  You are not going to believe this but we counted over 250 Polar Bears in one day …. Simply  incredible, amazing and indescribable !!!!!!!!!!!

As I write this we are steaming back to Krasin Bay where we will farewell our Ranger friends before starting our journey west tomorrow.
