A Perfect Score

We have six out of six and that is soon to be seven from seven, landings on this expedition that is!

It is really satisfying when we manage to accomplish all the landings we hope and plan for. The wonderful weather we continue to enjoy certainly helps. We made landings at 'Whale Bone Alley', the famous Arctic archaeological site in the Bering Strait and Gil’mimyl Hot Springs where we soaked in the hot pools after spending time exploring the tundra and enjoying the hospitality of a local Chukchi family. We also successfully landed everybody at Cape Dezhnev and the now abandoned Eskimo village of Naukan.  Next we spent an afternoon at Uelen Village and enjoyed a concert and cultural exchange. Yesterday we landed on Kolyuchin Island to observe the spectacular bird cliffs and had great views of Puffins and Guillemots before taking to the Zodiacs to get a close look at a large number of Pacific Walrus.

This afternoon we will be making this expedition’s first landing on Wrangel Island. There at Doubtful Harbour we will farewell those going on the northbound Overland Traverse expedition.
