Our First Polar Bear of the Season
Kolyuchin
Sailing towards Kolyuchin we encountered the first of the Arctic pack, but after some minor deviations we made our way to Kolyuchin Island. As the ship approached a Polar Bear was spotted sleeping on a snow bank, with the zodiacs launched we went for a closer look and enjoyed some quality time in the company of a seriously chilled out Polar Bear. As we watched from the zodiacs he enjoyed a leisurely nap with occasional adjustments to get more comfortable. In the afternoon we had a lovely landing at the entrance to Kolyuchin Inlet, the tundra here was alive with breeding migratory shorebirds, many spent some quality time with an obliging White-billed Diver on a tundra pond while others watched the Humpback Whales feeding literally just off shore.
