Orca at Ekarma Island

If anyone was hungry for breakfast today, it was just going to have to wait. With a wakeup call at 5.45am, we were in the zodiacs by 6.15am, surrounded by beautiful light and a plethera of birdlife. We cruised along the northern coastline of Ekarma Island, the puffins were posing nicely for our photographs. Just as we were about to head back to Spirit of Enderby, the call of 'orca' came over the radios...... we spent the next 30 minutes in the presense of four big male orca. Some of us got a very up close and personal experience with one of the whales getting as close as 3m away from the zodiac.

Needless to say the diningrooms were a-buzz with conversation as everyone relived such an incredible interaction with such magnificent mammals - all before breakfast! After such a busy morning we are enjoying a bit of down-time while the ship moves us on to Onekotan Island where we look forward to a landing at Nemo Bay and a walk to Black Lake.
