Olga Bay

This morning, the light was just superb as the sun just started to touch the top of Kronotsky volcano, one of the most scenic volcanos of the Kamchatka peninsula. Some of us were awoken earlier than we intended as the staff alerted us to a large pod of orca spotted from ship. We spent about 45 min watching them - they even followed us along the side of Spirit of Enderby for few minutes, before passing under the bow of the vessel. They were so close we could even hear them breathing – just incredible!

Just after lunch, we spent some time in the zodiacs alongside some very friendly Gray whales which decided to take a closer look at us and come right up alongside. Landing in Olga Bay we explored the coast line with the rangers of the Kronotsky Reserve. Some of us had the chance to observe a Brown Bear fishing in the river, while others followed a bear along the coast from our zodiacs – all the while Steller’s sea eagles were flying above our heads. Back onboard we are all reflecting on an exceptional day, enjoying the changing colours of this incredible land and sea scape  as the sun dipped below the horizon.
