Melanesia’s Secrets Revealed

It's been an exciting start our Secrets of Melanesia expedition; setting off from Solomon Island's capital Honiara, we boarded the Spirit of Enderby after a busy day of exploring the bustling city.

The first expedition day was spent in Thousands Ships Harbour between San Jorge and Santa Isabel Islands. First away, as usual, were the birders who walked into the hills to enjoy spotting such specialties as the White-billed Crow and Blyth's Hornbill, as the rest of us headed to the local village where we were warmly welcomed and shown the sights.

Even an impromptu shower on the way back to the ship as the heavens opened couldn't dampen spirits as we all headed to one of the beautiful small islands within the harbour. Welcomed by the spectacle of an enthusiastic pipe band, we then enjoyed several hours of idyllic snorkelling.
