Mega Herbs Carpeting Campbell

This is a very special time of the year to visit Campbell Island as the many mega herbs (large flowering plants) are in full bloom. Sir Joseph Hooker (who later became curator of the world famous Kew Gardens) was the botanist on the 1842 expedition led by Sir James Clark Ross that visited the island and he described these magnificent flowers as 'a floral display second to none outside of the tropics.'

We are just finishing two days here at Campbell Island before heading back to Bluff this afternoon.The flowers have been just one of the many highlights of our time here.
