Magical Day on Macquarie Island

We arrived at the much anticipated Macquarie Island at lunch time. After a few attempts at landing at our usual spots, we had a successful landing at Hasselborough Bay. We split into 3 groups and the Park Rangers led us around the research base dotted with juvenile elephant seals piled on top of each other enjoying some rest. We walked up to a high lookout as the sun started peeking out of the stormy clouds, giving us some spectacular views of the base and the landscape of the island. After a walk along the beach to visit some Royal, King, and Gentoo penguins, we warmed up in the mess hall with scones, tea, and some shopping. A great first day on Macquarie!
