Macca Visit

Macquarie Welcome

Fortunately the 30kt winds dropped to a more benign 5-10 on our arrival off Macquarie Island’s Buckles Bay. At 1500 we went ashore for a pleasant day exploring the Australian Antarctic Division base under sunny skies. The fog has now drawn in but it looks good for a visit to Sandy Bay tomorrow followed by a jaunt down the coast for a closer look at Lusitania Bay. All are well and happy aboard and we seem to be celebrating a lot of birthdays. The group is planning to make the most of our last landfall before we push on for the sea stretch to Antarctica.
