Jumping Humpback Whales

If anyone thought that the last day of our Wrangel Island expedition was going to be quiet, then they were in for a shock! Jumping Humpback Whales called us from our beds at 6am – followed by a zodiac cruise up into Pengingay Fjord where we saw a further 25 Humpback Whales feeding. We had two glorious hours watching these gentle giants feed and play around our zodiacs. It seemed it was a day for incredible whale encounters – as we set a course for Anadyr, the whales that had put on such a show for us this morning had been joined by some Grey Whales. Yet again, they decided to show off for us and we were treated to another whale jumping extravaganza off the bow of the ship. A zodiac cruise of a walrus haulout area in the afternoon, with over 100 walrus in the vicinity was a breath taking way to end our expedition.
