Alternative Olympics

Cloudy Anadyr

Our second 'Across the Top of the World' Arctic expedition for the summer left Anadyr on the evening of 8th August in calm seas and clear skies.  We have had some great landings at Whale Bone Alley, a fascinating archaeological site on Yttygran Island and at Cape Dezhnev, the north eastern extremity of the Eurasian Continent.

Yesterday we landed at Uelen Village. Our visit coincided with Indigenous Peoples day - a special holiday which they celebrate with games and dancing. It was a privilege to share this occasion with these people and we entered teams in some of the activities. It was a fun alternative to the Olympics the rest of the world was watching. We didn’t win any medals but we didn’t disgrace ourselves either!

Today we are making our way west along the North Siberian Coastline.
