Focus Voyage Underway

Our extended photographic voyage exploring the Subantarctic Islands closest to New Zealand got underway under gloomy skies in Bluff on Sunday. After a calm overnight sail we reached the Snares Islands early yesterday morning and set out in the Zodiacs for a 4 hour cruise along the rocky shoreline. The Snares Crested Penguins were obligingly close so the long lenses were not necessary but they came in handy when we saw many thousands of Titi (also known as Sooty Shearwaters or Muttonbirds) flying overhead.

We made good time to Enderby Island overnight and all expeditioners are now ashore hiking across the island under sunny skies whilst honing their photography skills in the company of renowned wildlife photographer Tui De Roy.
