Farewell New Caledonia

This is the last of our our three days at sea before reaching Rennell tomorrow. The past few days have brought a number of exciting finds. A flying fish had somehow managed to find its way on to the 400 level overnight. It was very intriguing to see one of these fish close up.

Flying Fish

Yesterday we managed to see four Polynesian Storm-petrels and a Magnificent Petrel. There were also a few blows seen in the distance but nothing close enough to confirm what species of whale it may have been. The weather has been hotting up with it reaching 34 degrees in the shade yesterday at 10am. Everyone is taking the opportunity to step inside every now and then and there is access to a salt water hose on the rear deck in the mid afternoon for all to cool down. Tonight the group will hear a talk about what they are likely to see when we reach Rennell tomorrow.
