Exploring the Picturesque Auckland Islands

Yeserday saw us arrive at Enderby Island in the Auckland Island group. The weather had deteriorated and we had low cloud and rain.

Our Expedition Leader Rodney’s decision to delay the landing by a couple of hours paid dividends as the weather cleared  and we had the most magnificent  afternoon and early evening.

The clear weather made for fantastic views and excellent photo opportunities of all the birds including the elusive snipe.

A highlight was a close encounter with a pair of NZ Falcon sitting on a rata stump. Yesterday we visited the very picturesque Carnley harbour and began our journey to Macquarie Island.

We plan to arrive there Sunday morning, sea conditions aren’t great but the forecast for our time at Macquarie Island is good and that is what matters.
