Emperors in the Land of the 24-Hour Sun
Now in the land of the 24-hour sun, it’s hard to sleep when you have so much beauty around. We had an early wake up at Cape Hallet as we pushed through pack ice slowly and quietly to magnificent views of Mt. Minto and Ironside Glacier. We continued south down the coast to Coulman Island. We had the rare opportunity to go through the channel between the continent and Coulman Island – a first for everyone on the ship. As we rounded the island the breeze died down and we had a perfectly flat Ross Sea, leaving up stunning mirror reflections of the island. After dinner everyone headed out on the decks as we slowly made our way through the slushy pack ice while viewing leopard seals and a few lone Emperor penguins on icebergs.
