Doubtful Bay

The morning light was a treat, and many of us seemed to be up and about in the early hours to see the colours on the horizon change and morph as the day dawned.  Several took the opportunity to get tripods out on deck and take landscape photos as the day brightened with very little cloud and fantastic visibility into the hills as well as on the ice floes of the ocean.  A landing this morning consisted of a variety of walk options, with everyone enjoying the calm, sunny landing and lapping up the silence and landscape.  Relocating to Doubtful Bay over lunchtime we had many walrus on ice, including some young pups.  Our last landing on Wrangel Island for this expedition was almost thwarted by polar bears - two were sighted in the immediate area. The bears eventually moved on and we were able to head ashore, delightfully rewarded by views of Snowy Owl and Arctic Fox as we walked up the riverbed with Rangers keeping an eye on any bear movements.
