Dawn Till Dusk Exploring Campbell Island

After an experience like Macquarie, it takes a very special place indeed to meet the elevated expectations onboard. Fortunately for us, one of the jewels in the crown of the subantarctic is Campbell Island.

Today we spent the entire day, from dawn until dusk, exploring this beautiful island with its ancient feel and bountiful wildlife. We split into two groups today; the long walkers took an epic hike across the island to North West Bay, seeing Campbell Snipe, Campbell Flightless Teal, lots of Southern Royal Albatross on their nests and endless flowering megaherbs.

The short walkers on the other hand, took a split option. A zodiac cruise around Perseverance Harbour took them in search of Campbell Shag and teal, as well as sights like the Loneliest Tree, Venus Cove and Terror Shoal. Their afternoon was spent up on Col Lyall where they enjoyed extended experiences with displaying and courting Southern Royal Albatross, immersing themselves in this intimate and rarely seen dance.
