Cruising the Poru Channel

 Day 14: Tuesday April 19

This morning we all loaded into the zodiacs right on dawn for a fantastic cruise along the Poru channel. We all saw lots of birds along this channel with its mangrove lining and complex rainforest above. The highlight was watching 40 or more Blythe’s Hornbill and many species of pigeon fly out of a single fig tree heavily laden with fruit. On the way back we made a stop at a delightful guest house – Vavaghio. After lunch the group split into the birders who walked up muddy tracks beyond Kupikalo village, while others swam and snorkeled the reef at a quaint village called Ritamala.
