Christmas Day

The weather is not good today and the forecast isn't great. We anchored up in Tagua Bay after a ship cruise into North Arm. Most of the group took the opportunity to land and see the old coast watchers hut. The visit was particularly special for one of our passengers, as her grandfather was the engineer responsible for organising the coast watching expeditions in 1941.

We all enjoyed a magnificent midday Christmas dinner where our chefs Bobbi and Lindsay excelled themselves. Festivities were wrapped up about 1500 when we departed for Macquarie Island. Conditions at sea were even worse than forecast, so after about 4 hours of trying to make headway, we returned to shelter in the lee of the Auckland Islands.
